LIVE DRONE RETRANSMISSION ON IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HAWAI
We went to Hawaii with our drones to broadcast live sports events. Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) appealed to us to give us the responsibility for retransmission using drones. We were in support and complementary helicopters, there were 17 cameras on this event that lasted more than 8 hours live. We mainly filmed the men’s and women’s swim starts and then all the transitions between swimming, cycling and running.
DRONE BROADCAST FOR NBC SPORTS
The drones are quite new in the re-transmission broadcast tv because the technique is developed recently. NBC Sports has called on ASO to bring their know-how on the production and production of sports events, they have formed their helicopter, motorcycle and drone teams, most of the technical team has a real experience and is already on the Dakar and the Tour de France.
AUTHORIZATIONS OF OVERVIEW IN THE USA WITH THE FAA
When we knew about the project and ASO wanted to engage us, we learned about the legislation in force in the USA. Our French pilot TVs do not have the right to fly a commercial drone on American soil, their PPL or ULM theoretical patent is not recognized, they must pass an examination and this on the US territory in a specialized center. So impossible for us to bring one of our pilots, we had to find an American or Canadian pilot with an FAA license. Once this casting was over, we looked at the FAA aeronautical charts of Hawaii and more specifically Kona where the Ironman was being held to make requests for overflight clearances. For this we had an official statement from the organization that it mandated freeway prod.
